Emotions come out of sensations overlaid with a thought. You can find the thought by asking “What is this feeling saying?” We create our own emotional traps by thinking the same old thoughts day after day. Through rational emotive therapy (RET), we challenge the thought that leads to the emotion and replace it with a healthier, more objective one. New thoughts can transform grief into gratitude, sadness to acceptance, worry into security and gone is the paralyzing, self-defeating negativity that feeds depression and anxiety.
But sometimes thoughts are not enough to transform emotions. If you have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect, deep wounds in the psyche perpetuate negative thoughts and painful emotions. Other forms of therapy such as schema therapy, psychodynamic therapy, desensitization and emotionally focused work repair maladaptive thoughts.
Through psychotherapy, you can move from emotional to emotive and have a more rewarding, more meaningful existence.
